Biomedicum, as part of the Karolinska Institute is a hub of advanced research and science. It is located in the Karolinska Institute Solna Campus, at the heart of Life Science research in Stockholm.

Biomedicum is one of Europe’s most modern research facilities and attracts students and professionals from all over the world. It can accommodate approximately 1600 people, both researchers and other staff. The research lab provides spontaneous opportunities for crossover research by bringing scientific activities focused on distinct disciplines together under the same roof.

The building was designed with the main objective of creating a milieu with natural meeting spots, promoting cooperation as well as exchange of ideas and experiences. With a number of meeting nodes and a core of common facilities, the design enables flexible, accessible and functional working environments in a natural meeting place sculpted as a large central atrium.

Besides encouraging collaboration under the same roof, Biomedicum facilitates intercommunication and cooperation between buildings. It lies in close proximity to Aula Medica and the Widerström building, and furthermore has a direct link to BioClinicum, the clinical research environment at Karolinska University Hospital. This link deeply stimulates a close collaboration within clinical research and across scientific boundaries.

Biomedicum is the venue of choice for Nordic NGS Conference 2020 and it was handpicked for its importance, excellence and highly attractive milieu for the open discussion in science and technology. Biomedicum’s modern, smart and inviting design makes it a highly suitable choice to hold a conference where the most current topics in research meet cutting-edge technology and the state-of-the-art in clinical diagnostics.
